AOL co-founder Steve Case is traveling the country again for the fifth time as part of his "Rise of the Rest" road trip, where he invests in entrepreneurs from cities traditionally underrepresented when it comes to startup activity funding. Case hosts an entrepreneurial pitch competition and gives the winner of each city an investment of $100,000.

This year on Oct. 6 Albuquerque is among one of the five stops; interested startups (headquartered a 'reasonable driving distance' from the city), may submit applications for the pitch competition until Sept. 7.

Read more information in the Albuquerque Business First or refer to the application criteria from the Rise of the Rest website, below:

Only companies that already have teams, product in market and customers/revenues should apply. Qualifying companies must be headquartered a reasonable driving distance away from the cities we are visiting… no fly in’s please. If you don't qualify to pitch, RSVP to attend the fireside chat, pitch competition and party. We would love to meet you!

Does the idea "swing for the fences" and have the potential to disrupt a big industry, affect your community, or even change the world?

• JOBS:
Will the idea, if it scales, employ a large number of people?

• TEAM:
Does the team have the skills and leadership to move forward on this idea?

Is there strong customer growth or revenue?

Has a revenue model been defined and is it realistic and sustainable?

Is this idea building on the core strengths (and unique differentiators) of the region - and, if selected, will this startup potentially excite national investors and media to pay more attention to what's happening in the region?

You can apply to pitch at one city only.

In order to qualify to pitch in the contest, you will need to fill out and submit an application.

Wednesday 9/7 at 11.59pm EST. Applications will be reviewed and applicants will be informed within 2 weeks of 9/7.

Revolution’s “Rise of the Rest” initiative is a nationwide effort led by Steve Case to showcase – and invest in – entrepreneurs in emerging startup ecosystems across the U.S. To date, $2M has been invested in startup businesses across 19 cities. During day-long visits to these “rising” startup ecosystems, Steve Case, the Revolution team - with support from partners including Google for Entrepreneurs and Salesforce for Startups - meet with local entrepreneurs, businesses, non–profits, universities, and public officials to discuss the opportunities and challenges of fostering startup growth.
